On Friday, December 7, 2012, Risen Christ Lutheran School will be holding a Silent Auction and World Music Concert. This is a fundraiser event for the Eagle Fund, a scholarship fund available to all families to provide financial assistance for quality Christian education. The evening will begin with the Silent Auction beginning at 5 pm. Light Hors ‘doeuers will be served. There are many fabulous items that will be auctioned off. Some of the items include: a Samsung Galaxy 7″ Tablet, tickets for 2 for reserved terrace seating at a Chicago Cubs game, guitar signed by Vince Gill, tambourine signed by Kenny Rogers, golf packages for 4, dinner & a show (Alabama Theater, Legends, & others), tickets to Wonderworks, and so much more!
Along with the Silent Auction we are thrilled to welcome Mr. Liam Teague, hailed as the “Paganini of Steelpan”, as our guest artist.
Mr. Teague has distinguished himself as the recipient of many awards in his homeland Trinidad and Tobago, including championships for his ability of the steel pan, violin and recorder. In addition to being the Co-winner of the National Steel Band Festival Solo Championship of Trinidad and Tobabo, Teague won the Saint Louis Symphony Volunteers Association Young Artiste Competition in 1998. Under the baton of Dr. Paul Freeman, Teague with the Chicago Sinfonietta gave the world premier of the Illinois composer Jan Bach’s “Concerto for Steelpan and Orchestra” in 1995 at Orchestra Hall, Chicago. Many subsequent appearances with Chicago Sinfonietta have followed and among the most note-worthy was his 2001 performance at Kennedy Center. He has performed with many ensembles including the Taiwan National Symphony, Czech National Symphony, Panama National Symphony, Saint Louis Symphony, Dartmouth Wind Ensemble, University of Wisconsin-Madison Marching Band, TCL Group Skiffle Bunch and the BP Renegades Steel Band.
Liam Teague is currently the musical arranger for the Starlift Steel Orchestra, one of the most celebrated steel bands in the world. For more information about Mr. Teague check out his web page: http://www.liamteague.com/
Teaming with Mr. Teague will be the Coastal Carolina University Steel Band under the direction of Mr. Jessie Willis and Dr. Tim Peterman from Carolina Forest Elementary School. Together they will provide a wonderful collaboration of varying musical styles showcasing all that the steelpan is capable of doing. Mr. Teague will also offer many solo selections showcasing his virtuostic abilities.
The concert will begin at 7 pm in the church building. Autographs, final bidding, and refreshments will conclude back in the school building after the concert for approximately 45 minutes.
